Prevalence of Staphylococcus aureus in Bulk Tank Milk Collected from Dairies of District Allahabad, India

چکیده
Sufficient evidence exists to effect that milk is an excellent source of nutrients for both man (Sharma and Joshi, 1992) and bacteria (Henry and Newlander, 1997). It is therefore required that milk be consumed only after it is pasteurized to make it safe. Unfortunately, recent evidence has revealed postpasteurization contamination of milk with pathogenic bacteria (Oliver et al., 2005) and antibiotic resistant bacteria. According to Hawkey (2008) antimicrobial resistance is currently the greatest challenge to the effective treatment of infectious globally. Contamination of milk with microbes therefore results in rapid multiplication and this may deteriorate the quality of milk leading to issues of food safety (Frazier and West Hoff, 1986) and public health concern when the microbes are antibiotic resistant (Guerra et al., 2003). Milk is a nutritious food for human beings, acting as good medium for the growth of many microorganisms, International Journal of Current Microbiology and Applied Sciences ISSN: 2319-7706 Volume 6 Number 6 (2017) pp. 1297-1303 Journal homepage: http://www.ijcmas.com

Bulk tank milk somatic cell count and sources of raw milk contamination with mastitis pathogens
The objective of this study was to probe the relationship between prevalence of selected principal mastitis pathogens and somatic cell counts in bulk tank milk samples. The sources of milk contamination were evaluated. The samples were collected from 298 dairy herds (with approximately 32 000 dairy cows). Only 48.3% of the bulk tank milk samples were free of contamination of pathogens of intere...
متن کاملShort communication: Prevalence of methicillin resistance in coagulase-negative staphylococci and Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bulk milk on organic and conventional dairy farms in the United States.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative Staphylococcus spp. in bulk tank milk samples from 288 organic and conventional dairy farms located in New York, Wisconsin, and Oregon from March 2009 to May 2011. Due to recent publications reporting the presence mecC (a mecA homolog not detected by traditional mecA-ba...
متن کاملPrevalence of Bovine Mastitis Pathogens in Bulk Tank Milk in China
The objectives of this study were to estimate the herd prevalence of major mastitis pathogens in bulk tank milk (BTM) in China dairy herds, to determine the relationship between the presence of mastitis pathogens and bulk tank milk somatic cell counts (BTSCC), and to investigate the impact of different dairy cattle farming modes and region on bacterial species. BTM samples collected from 894 da...
متن کاملPrevalence of Salmonella enterica in bulk tank milk from US dairies as determined by polymerase chain reaction.
Samples of bulk tank milk from dairies across the United States, taken as part of the National Animal Health Monitoring System Dairy 2002 survey, were analyzed for the presence of Salmonella enterica using a commercially available real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) kit. Samples from 854 farms in 21 states were collected and enriched in tetrathionate broth to amplify any salmonellae prese...
متن کاملThe prevalence of Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus and their virulence genes in bulk tank milk in Kosovo.
INTRODUCTION Milk is considered to be a healthy, nutritious food product. Microbiological quality is an important aspect in evaluating the quality of milk. METHODOLOGY A total of 603 bulk tank milk samples from 221 farms distributed across ten different regions were collected for milk quality assessment. Quality was judged by total viable count, and the prevalence of two foodborne pathogens (...
